Lillee Jean Buxom Cosmetics Va-Va Liquid Lipstick Review w/ Swatches 2018
VA-VA YES! Welcome back, Jeaniez! Today I have a special blog post for you loves featuring Buxom Cosmetic’s new “Va-Va Plump” Shiny Liquid Lipstick line. Before we get into details, and specs, please note this was PR gifted, thus in a way an ad, however, all opinions expressed are MY OWN. You will find that everything here is not influenced, but rather my own ideas from a two-day trial run with these beautiful lippies! Please enjoy, and share your thoughts in the comment section below.
With 20 liquid lipsticks released to kick off the new year, this product has me swooning! According to Buxom, they claim this lipstick is an innovation from the curved applicator tip, to the formula. One will receive that “Buxom Babe” look with full juicy lips, and of course a full range of colors that can take anyone from day to night. I would like to mention that these colors are EXTREMELY saturated, and VERY long-lasting, to the point one might receive even a stain after removal!
From light nude pink to deep and sexy plum I must say the shade range is incredible. Albeit, some shades looked better on me than others, but I did try most of them on for you Jeaniez, with the exception of two (2), which I instead recorded for my live swatching demo which will be live on my Instagram in a few hours! ANYHOW. With any product, it’s a good idea to consider packaging! Buxom, used their classic lipgloss design, with instead a black package that is sleek and contains tiny raised kisses on the handle. Sliding up we have the new applicator and OH MY GOSH, GUYS! IT IS AMAZING. You know how some doe-foot applicators sorta’ “tug”, and don’t necessarily “hug” the lips. Well, this applicator does, and within one swipe of pigment, I was set.
Formula wise I was quite critical of, but I saw little to no flaws (unless you fancy natural and organic lipsticks, then this is NOT for you)! First off, this product has EXTREME pigment. In my Instagram tutorial, I prove this by putting “Russian To You” over my heavily stained reddish pink lips. It coated like a concealer (good or bad, just wasn’t my color). That means the color is drenched with moisturizing compounds, since thicker formulas, although this did feel quite comfortable, need some sort of binding base! Anyho, I did enjoy how easy EACH color slid on my lips, and I did also enjoy how within 10 minutes time the colors dried down to a semi-matte finish with some movability to spare. Buxom claims that smudging, bleeding, and fading will NOT occur, however, I did notice if you’re not precise enough, the formula MIGHT latch on to tiny peach fuzz around the lips, which would mimic bleeding. For the most part, however, fading (trust me) WILL NOT occur unless you on purpose remove the lip color. As for smudging, this MIGHT occur, since the color is moisture drenched, thus leaving it more time to dry down, but please note the finish DOES have a nice satiny dry texture! I personally prefer ANYTHING with a little moisture, especially in the colder seasons, since I have an expressive face and have suffered from CLL (cracked liquid lippie) syndrome before. EEEEK! PS…this is Paraben and Sulfate Free.
Consistency between colors is wonderful, and not one has sheer pigment, nor a mishap that occurred. For example, some dark lipsticks tend to be lax and streaky! This was NOT the case with these colors. I will say the lighter range of colors, were not extremely flattering on my skin tone, but again I swatched them all for you beauties! I suppose mixing Russian To You w/ a little Come To Dolly might give off a kissable, and wearable effect for me. OH YES! Buxom also included their signature tingling ingredient and sweet smelling fragrance to this product to boost the collagen production in your lips, and thus, in turn, making your lips seem plumper. Overall I am extremely thrilled with this product and would myself invest in a few colors, since I rate them a 9.5/10, ACROSS THE BOARD. How’s that for a review (inside joke, since you loves know I basically rate everything a 7 or 8)?!
‘Stay The Night’ is one of the darkest shades within this collection line! I am PICKY when it comes to my wine or plum colored lipsticks, so actually, this was a surprise when I fell in love with the warmth this color yields. It’s simply perfect, and I feel a universal shade that can take you from the Winter season straight into Spring. Streakiness did NOT OCCUR, nor did fading, or bleeding! The color was long-lasting, too.
‘Kiss & Tell’ although it appears to be an orange coral online, this is MUCH more coral pink on my skin tone. I actually LOVE it, and I love the effortless look it yields. This baby is set for Spring, and Summer!
‘Taupe It Off’ – I didn’t think I would like this shade, but since the taupey color is not quite cool nor quite warm it works with my coloring, and almost has a HINT of mauve and an undertone of warmth. It applied smoothly, and dried down to a nice satiny matte finish!
‘Boldly Go’ IS MY NEW FAVORITE RED! THIS COLOR, THIS APPLICATOR, THIS FORMULA. Oh, I swoon. It is amazing, and believe it or not, it only took ONE SWIPE for both lips. Worth the $20.00? I say, YES.
‘Dare Me’ is a striking hot pink with subtle magenta hints. I am not a “PINK” girl, but I actually did like how nicely it played up with my skin tone! Similar to the other colors, I had one swipe pigment, and no biggy with wear time.
‘Make Me Melt’ OKAY. ANOTHER FAVORITE COMING THROUGH! I love ‘Make Me Melt’ since it’s the perfect hot chocolate brownish red that can take you from Winter to Spring, to Summer and even Spring. It’s universal and universally amazing.
‘Wine Not’ – Pfft. Talk about the cleverness of these lipstick names. I’m glad for once the names aren’t bluntly sexual. ANYHOW. This color was another favorite of mine since the beautiful berry tones accented my eyes wonderfully, and made my skin tone seem flawless. It’s definitely a showstopping, yet wearable color! I like it!
‘Russian To You’ As being Ukrainian and Russian, and French and blah blah I thought I would REALLY love this color. However, sadly I don’t enjoy concealer lips! Perhaps this would be a beautiful “ombre lip” shade that would add a center highlight. If you’re looking for the actual color, please note it COVERS, and is very long-lasting. In my video, I apply ‘Russian To You’ over heavily stained red lips, and like they never existed, all that showed was this nudish pink color.
‘Feel The Passion’ – Do you feel my passion? This pretty in pink color is a beautiful addition to anyone’s collection as it’s just between cool, and neutral. I really love how I feel comfortable talking with this color on, and even dried my lips did not feel heavy nor coated.
‘Make It Hot’. Sigh, orange reds or warm reds are my weakness. ‘Make It Hot’ is a beautiful and perfectly mixed warm red that fires up hair and makes my complexion lean on the warmer side. I enjoyed how “natural” and effortless the color looked due to the moisturizing and thicker consistency of this product.
‘Pin Up Plum’. Although beautiful, perhaps on someone with darker skin, this, in my opinion, was not a good look for me, since nothing was accented, all you could see was the color, but hey perhaps that’s just preference. Bleeding, fading, and smudging did NOT occur, so formula wise this is a WINNER!
‘Beg For Mauve’ LOOKS VERY different on me, then it does online, however, I dig the way it emphasizes any coolness in my complexion thus making my eyes bluer, and my skin more like snow. It applied beautifully, and quite smoothly!
‘Getting Warmer’ is like that in-between ALMOST THERE color that is on the brink of being warm but can really be considered taupey cool. It’s an interesting color, but I’m really swooning over how within one swipe, no streakiness I had FULL fledged pigment.
‘Gimme A Hint’ is a beautiful cool toned pink that has hints of purple/mauve. It’s definitely a FUN loving color and would be perfect for those willing to take a chance, without going out of their comfort zone. Color wise it applied even, and was long-lasting (4-hour trial)!
‘Honey Do’ is a very warm toned honey brown that I think would look different on many people.
‘Come To Dolly’ is Buxom’s signature “PERFECT” mauve. I love how classy, and by the same token modern the color looked on me! Application wise, just like Dollies sisters, she applied smoothly, within one coat as the brand promises, and stayed on like a dream.
‘Get Lucky’ – Buxom used to have a similar pale lilac color that honestly was not so flattering! However, I noticed that anything with lilac/lavender has the effect of making my eyes bluer, so I thought I’d for the heck of it try this baby on. While it is not my favorite, it is a workable shade, that can be used to add saturation to other shades, or perhaps light to a Spring photoshoot :).
