Your New Spring Obsession: Red-Violet (Magenta) Lips

Red-violet is probably not on the top of your list when it comes to wearable Spring lip colors, however I promise you, if you give the shade a try it will NOT disappoint, even if you have warmer skin complexions. Allow me to explain. Since red-violet is basically a magenta, the hue can be anywhere from a pink, to like above, a medium toned purple with reddish undertones! Magenta is not intimidating once you get down to the nitty gritty of the undertones, which by the way can be infused with any berry/hot pink shade. Not only can this color work perfectly for those who desire impactful makeup in less than 5 minutes, it can work perfectly for Spring cleaning beauties looking to change up their typical routine, and who are looking to swap out their layout of cosmetic products for new ones. Pop o’ colors, and dewy skin IS SO in right now. Below are some shades within this magenta category that you can choose from! Each I have tried either in store, or personally own. Sunset lips (magenta or the color above is apart of that sunset range), here we come 🙂
Anastasia Beverly Hills – Liquid Lipstick, Madison
Vibrant “plum” magenta — has a reddish base, perfect for those with
blue eyes, and fair-light skin. Can look striking on mocha skin,
due to the contrast, and due to purples looking AMAZING
on darker skinned beauties!
Dose of Colors – Matte Liquid Lipstick, Berry Me 2
Another plummish magenta shade. This one is universally flattering,
since it changes tone across everyones skin coloring!
It’s a bit lighter than Madison by Anastasia Beverly Hills.
Mac Cosmetics – Lipstick, Rebel
A creamy plum with slight magenta undertones.
This one screams more PINK than the other two, and less purple.
Perfect for medium skin tones, or those with green/hazel eyes.
Mac Cosmetics – Mineralized Rich Lipstick, So Good
I tried this out while at the Mac counter last month,
and although it didn’t quite “work” for me, the color
is a beautiful deep magenta PERFECT for olive complexions,
and CAN work on extremely cool toned complexions, also.
Urban Decay Cosmetics – Vice Lipstick, Crank
If you have cool skin tones, and generally are fair (maybe
even medium skin toned), this magenta lipstick would be PUURRRFECT
for you! It’s the ideal bright berry, with slight hints of fuchsia+magenta,
and comes from one of my favorite brands. This should carry you into Summer.
*Purple IS NOT magenta, it’s just that, purple.
*Plum is also not magenta, though a plum pink can lean magenta.
*Just because something is marketed magenta, doesn’t mean it’s the right color for YOU.
*ORCHID is a lighter tone of purple, with a bit of pink. It’s not magenta, but can work.
Don’t let “plum” intimidate you, and affect your overall choice! There is a magenta hue for everyone 🙂 Will you be sporting a magenta lippie come the warmer weather? Let me know in the comments below, love bunnies!!
